The
musicians in our orchestra bring an amazing range of talent, training
and experience to King Concert Hall. Their backgrounds
represent
virtually every major school of music and conservatory in the country.
Many former members of our orchestra are now in major symphony
orchestras throughout the United States. These musicians’ love of music
and of this orchestra brings them from all over Western New York and
Pennsylvania to rehearse and perform together. Several of them often
stay with friends of the orchestra during rehearsal weeks. This ensemble
of outstanding players includes faculty at the Fredonia School of Music
at SUNY Fredonia and professional musicians from the Buffalo, Rochester
and Erie areas, and even further away.
A chamber orchestra consists of
35 to 50 players, rather than the 85 to 100 for a standard symphonic
ensemble. Much of the standard
orchestral repertoire is appropriate for the chamber orchestra,
especially that written before the late 19th century, when this was the
standard size of many orchestras. More recently, works may be designated
especially for chamber orchestra or “small orchestra.” Successful
programming, which shapes the artistic personality of the orchestra, is
dependent on the skill and experience of the Artistic or Music Director
and his commitment to the mission of the orchestra and its audiences.
Leadership and Administration
The Western New York Chamber Orchestra is one of our community's greatest treasures, and during its twenty-six year history of excellence has been a cultural highlight of Chautauqua County. Demonstrate the value you place on our cultural heritage and encourage others to support our orchestra.
